Before something bad happens or it is too late, people do not give enough importance to self defense. Self defense is as important as cooking, acquiring new skills, driving, swimming, and many other things. This blog is not about how you can become Bruce lee or any action hero. It is about how you can increase chances of survival in any hostile situation. Let’s discuss some points:
1.Don’t be a hero – You must know that you are just a normal human being. Fight scenes you see in the movie are all well choreographed, which means the hero will rarely lose or die. In the real situations, things are different as we all know nothing is really in our hand, so if a hostile situation arises, you make sure that you know your limitations and think about yourself and your loves ones. If that situation involve minor pushing or bad words, you try to avoid it by any means necessary. Only fight when you know there is nothing you can do to avoid it. If situation gets more threatening like mugging then you should give away your belongings to save yourself. Remember only fight when you or your loved ones life are in grave danger. Try to carry something with you like a pepper spray or baton or cutter for extra security.
2. Join classes or seek the expert help – Join any self defense class or take advise from a expert which can be a martial artist or solider or anyone who has been in any combat situation. This will help you to gain a new perspective about how human body works and how it can be turn it into a weapon. If the situation arises then you might have an idea to how to deal with it. These classes won’t make you any extra ordinary being but will make you more aware and confident.
3.Always be aware – It is an advice which everyone loves to give. Whenever we go outside, we should remember that world is an unpredictable place, we should be aware of our surroundings if we want to save ourselves from unnecessary fighting, mugging or accidents. I am not saying that always be in fear or constant paranoia, I am just saying always be aware, do not use earphone or talk to someone on phone while you are outside. Just keep your eyes, ears, and minds open.
4.Stay fit – I know it sound very simple and even unnecessary. But staying fit is a key, if you want to live stronger and longer. A fit person has more chance in dealing with any situation than an unfit one. For eg. if you are stronger than your kicks and punches will be more effective and if you have high stamina than you can easily run away without getting tired. You can also try yoga or meditation because a calm mind is also very effective in almost every situation.
